ZoIPer Softphone Setup
🧭 How to Set Up Zoiper 5 Softphone for Your PBX Account
This guide will walk you through configuring Zoiper 5 on your desktop or mobile device to connect to your company’s PBX system. Download the ZoIPer App free version from here: https://www.zoiper.com/en/voip-softphone/download/current.
🔹 Step 1: Create or Identify Your Extension
Before beginning, make sure you have received your SIP account details from the PBX administrator or support ticket.
You will need:
-
PBX Host / Domain:
yourpbx.openip.us:5061 -
Outbound Proxy:
yourpbx.openip.us:5061 - Username: your extension number (e.g., 100)
- Password: your SIP password (provided in the ticket)
🔹 Step 2: Add a New Account
- Open Zoiper 5.
- Go to Accounts → Add account.
- When asked “Do you already have an account?” select Yes.
- Choose Manual configuration.
- For Account type, select SIP.
🔹 Step 3: Enter Account Details
In the account creation window, fill in the following fields:
Field Value
Account name Any friendly name (e.g., “My PBX 1126”)
Host / Domain yourpbx.openip.us:5061
Outbound proxy yourpbx.openip.us:5061
Username Your extension number
Auth username Same as username (if present)
Password Your SIP password
Click Save once all fields are completed.
🔹 Step 4: Set Transport to TLS
After saving, open the new account settings and change the transport protocol:
- Go to Accounts → [your account] → Network settings → Transport = TLS,
OR - Accounts → [your account] → Additional settings → Network settings → Transport = TLS
This ensures your connection uses secure SIP over TLS (port 5061).
🔹 Step 5: Configure TLS Security
Navigate to Settings → Advanced → Security → TLS Options and set:
- Protocol Suite = SSL v2/v3
🔹 Step 6: Enable SRTP (Encryption)
Turn on voice-encryption settings:
- ZRTP → Enable ZRTP = OFF
- SRTP → SDES Negotiation = ON
Your final Encryption section should look like:
Encryption: ZRTP → OFF SRTP → ON (SDES Negotiation)
🔹 Step 7: Verify Registration
If all settings are correct, Zoiper will attempt to register your account.
Within ~30 seconds, a green check mark should appear next to your account name.
✅ Green check mark = Registered successfully
❌ No green check mark = Registration failed (check credentials, host, or network)
🔹 Step 8: Ready to Use
Once registered:
- You can make and receive calls through your PBX.
- The call status should show Registered under the account list.
🛠 Troubleshooting Tips
- Double-check that your internet allows outbound SIP TLS (port 5061).
- Ensure the PBX credentials are correct.
- If registration still fails, contact your system administrator with a screenshot of your account settings.
